Beyond the Triage: Harnessing the Power of Technology to Create a New Experience of Learning

What were the lessons we learned about the power of technology to support learning during Aotearoa New Zealand's COVID responses?

What's it all about?

The recent period of school and kura closures during the COVID-19 lockdown saw educators, learners, parents and whānau suddenly confronted with the need to think differently about how to engage in their learning when no longer operating within the familiar physical learning spaces.

Many turned to some form of technology to ‘bridge the gaps’. While recognising this was an emergency remote learning response and not a model for going forward, the lockdown experience has provided some valuable insights into what can work and how.

In this panel session speakers from CORE Education will share their perspectives and experiences through the lockdown, focusing in particular on the role of technology in the approach they took. Common themes will be identified, and an emphasis on the affordances of particular technology enablers will be discussed.

The session will conclude with a brief discussion and opportunities to ask questions about the ways these lessons may be used to inform the design of learning experiences into the future.
