Code or No-code? That is the question!

How are "no-code" development platforms affecting our approach to developing websites and applications and what limitations do they have?

What's it all about?

No-code development platforms (NCDP) have made significant progress in recent years especially in the field of web design and development, leading to what some have termed the “democratisation of software development”. How do these emerging technologies affect our approach to developing websites and applications?

For those of us in the dynamic world of web development, keeping up-to-date with the latest advancements has now extended from code-based libraries and frameworks to the creation platforms themselves. As NCDPs and supporting web services become increasingly sophisticated at offering features that were previously limited to the realms of code-based software development, it’s more important than ever to gain a better understanding of the current landscape.

We will look into the key benefits of using NCDPs, including accessibility and expediting product development, and will also explore current limitations.

We have two guests on our panel of experts. Hailing from Wellington, Connor Finalyson is the founder of Unicorn Factory, a hub for Kiwi businesses to find and hire freelancers. He is also an active contributor and speaker in the No Code space. We hope to draw on Connor's experience to learn about what is possible with Webflow. Alex Murton is the technical director at Studio Almond in Auckland. With a background of software development and, more recently, NCDPs, Alex will provide insights into the benefits and opportunity cost of both.

The event will start with a a panel discussion and then we will then open it up for Q & A.

We hope that this event can stimulate conversation around “no-code” (and low-code) development vs. traditional practices and help us to make informed decisions on the tools and processes we use.
