Narrowing NZ’s digital divide and doing it right

What's it all about?

New Zealand has a widening digital divide, the country-wide lockdown and our population’s reliance on technology and connectivity only exacerbating it. For our telco industry, it provided an opportunity for key players to reflect on market practices, and evaluate current methods of policy making, funding and rollout practices.

Motu has worked for the last three years to evaluate the impact of ultra-fast broadband on New Zealanders. Arthur Grimes of Motu shares these findings in this panel along with leading telecommunications experts to encourage discussion around connectivity for all.

Huawei NZ, Motu, Maori Spectrum Commission and TUANZ come together in this interesting Techweek panel to discuss New Zealand’s telecommunications industry and how to combat our nation’s digital divide.

They’ll unpack how the digital divide, path dependence, economic history, and inequality have impacted the rollout of the country’s broadband, what’s been done so far to combat the divide, and muse on future regulatory considerations and the what the impact of innovation can have on levelling the playing field.
