Get inspired through a ground-breaking online Masterclass by the woman who created moments that changed the world. Learn sports performance innovation and motivational tips around mental toughness as iconic athlete, author, Emmy-winning broadcaster and social causes advocate, Kathrine Switzer gives insights into myths of limitation.
Switzer was the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967. She was attacked in the race by an angry official who tried to rip off her bib number (#261) and throw her out of the race because she was a woman. She finished the 42.2-mile distance and went on win the 1974 NY City Marathon, led the drive to make the women's marathon an official Olympic event in 1984, and founded 261 Fearless, a non-profit that empowers women globally through running. Now 58% of all runners in N. America are women. In 2017, she ran the Boston Marathon again 50 years later, at age 70, breaking yet another barrier of limitation.

At the Boston Marathon three years ago, the world was pleasantly startled to
learn that a 70-year old woman ran a marathon 50 years after she ran her
first one. She was the first woman to ever do that, and she did it
convincingly, in fact, only 24 minutes slower than she did her first
marathon, at age 20.
In so doing, Kathrine Switzer broke yet another barrier in a lifetime of
breaking barriers, and simultaneously celebrated 50 years of women’s
athletic AND social achievements. She is one of our inspirational
masterminds in the Groundswell Masterclass series.
