Jodie Auster began her professional career as an emergency doctor. Wanting to gain the skills and confidence to transition from medicine to business, Jodie joined Melbourne Business School to study an MBA. After stints at Bain and Scoopon, Jodie moved to Silicon Valley, San Francisco and joined Thumbtack as their 25th employee. She went on to lead Thumbtack through a period of enormous growth and transformation, including a $270M venture capital raise. After three years overseas, a new opportunity presented itself back in Melbourne — to lead the local arm of Uber Eats. She joined as GM for Melbourne and is now the Regional GM for APAC.
Join Jodie for an inspiring keynote opener to the Liminal* Conference, on her big career pivots into technology and what she learned along the way.
How much money has been spent on “diversity & inclusion” while companies remain largely homogenous or create opportunities only for straight White women? Funding external partnerships and PR don’t address daily microaggressions underrepresented employees face, while unconscious bias training has been shown to potentially increase bias in the workplace. An almost singular focus on women in the workplace has left women of colour behind, erased the experience of people with disabilities, and left almost everyone with “diversity fatigue”. Join The Mathpath Aubrey Blanche, Director of Equitable Design & Impact at Culture Amp, to learn how you can evolve your programs to create fair experiences for every employee and build better, safer products.
From the outside, successful career trajectories often resemble a ladder, but there are many twists, turns and even moments of pause along the way. In this session, Laura Chambers will share her career adventure and how she overcame ceilings and roadblocks along the way. You’ll hear why Laura advocates for “half-steps” when it comes to career progress. These small, yet important, steps will ultimately open avenues for your growth, development and experience. Before Willow, Laura was at Airbnb, where she led the Core Hosts business.
Join Roli Saxena, for a fireside discussion on her career journey and why she believes this breadth of experience is valuable in building a holistic career. Roli has worked in companies ranging from internet start-ups to large technology firms in a variety of functions; finance, product management and marketing. The diversity in experience across functions has enabled a unique perspective on the interplays between functions.
May Samali is passionate about investing in people and ideas that can change the world. As a trained leadership and personal coach, May works with executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals to unlock their purpose, power and potential, and to unleash the career and life of their dreams. In this session, May will take you on a (condensed) journey of self-discovery, you’ll walk away with a toolkit of techniques to help you visualise and actualise the possibilities for your professional life.
In this session, she'll share how to break into the startup world - focusing on updating your resume, interviewing remotely, setting goals and surrounding yourself with advocates to propel your career, and more. There will be plenty of time for questions, too.
